TYPES OF PAIN WE TREAT

Acute pain is the body’s response to an injury or other event (e.g. surgery, infection or childbirth). It can last from a few seconds to several months. If untreated, acute pain can turn into chronic pain.

Chronic pain is pain that persists long after an injury has healed. It can be present for several months to several years. Much like acute pain, chronic pain can result from an injury or other incident. It can also be a symptom of an ongoing disease (e.g. cancer, arthritis, fibromyalgia). Additionally, some people may suffer chronic pain without ever having experienced bodily injury. If untreated, over time chronic pain can severely affect an individual’s overall well-being. It can lead to anxiety, depression, weight gain, and other health issues that can be generally detrimental to an individual’s quality of life.

Any person experiencing pain on a regular basis should see a doctor, especially if the pain begins to interfere with daily activities.
